After several days of trauma within the family with my mother having had several strokes and several other health concerns, the girls and I will still be able to go on vacation, the first REAL vacation in many years. My mom is currently doing much better, has been transferred to rehab where she is the therapist’s pet, and is gradually gaining back her cognitive and executive functions, and those skills necessary to perform her activities of daily living. It was iffy for awhile whether or not our vacation would take place, given the grave state of my mom’s health, but I am relieved and grateful that she is doing so well.
I am the eternal list maker, and I have made a fairly comprehensive list of things that I will need while on vacation, to include some software and peripherals for work (yes, I will be doing SOME work while gone), iPods and cell phones and journals and books, snacks and blankies and pillows and cameras and batteries and a myriad of other items that made me realize just how much stuff we have and how much I hate to travel. The plus is that we are getting away to visit with Erika, Chad and Samantha, and it will be an adventure. I am praying there are no disasters while there, but I have a ready supply of Excedrin Migraine and my handy, dandy StressEraser just in case. The girls are jazzed. I will be grateful when we arrive in Austin.
Ta ta for now.

I can’t turn water into tequila (not a wine drinker much), nor can I part the Red Sea or feed the masses with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, but when it comes to computer-ish things, I CAN and WILL diagnose, spit, curse, chant or do whatever I have to in order to get things back to reasonable (i.e., able to actually recognize Windows). Computers are my friends. Most of my life is spent in front of one computer or another, and I have learned (sometimes by making really stupid mistakes) how to fix what gets broken. So, I had this old computer that I had previously restored and given to a friend while hers was on the fritz. It died another untimely death (likely related to a Trojan virus gained on MySpace when her eldest was trolling), wouldn’t bring up Windows, wouldn’t recognize the keyboard, had no sound, and was basically going to computer heaven. But, I fixed it. It took some effort, but it is currently running like a top, fast and efficient, and all the previous issues have been corrected. And the virus is a memory. Take that, you assholes.
Today is Monday and I am happily in my work place with a load of laundry in the dryer, a load in the washer, dishes in the dishwasher, and am awaiting a tech support call for my newest position with a fairly small, seemingly savvy company in Georgia. Isn’t it amazing, this electronic age in which I can access a facility in any state in the U.S. and even our good neighbor Canada, and do it all right from the confines of my boudoir while dressed in my jammies? Is that not a cool thing? I take that ability/perk for granted sometimes, but I really am grateful to have the opportunity.
Mom is home from the hospital after a bout with the most recent affliction of pneumonia and is doing much better.
J, E and I all got haircuts yesterday. I lost a good 5 inches of length and the bangs are really stupid, but with any luck, it will grow back and in a month or 2, I will look almost normal. J’s and E’s cuts are cute.
I got a voice mail message from my granddaughter for my birthday. Can’t wait to see her and squeeze her. She is beautiful and, I suspect, a handful. Less than 2 weeks from now and we will be on our way to Austin to visit E et al. The girls get more excited every day as do I. A REAL vacation with just the 3 of us. Imagine that.

Yeah, I got even older yesterday at approximately 12:00 CST. BUT, it was a really cool, very small birthday celebration. I had previously gotten a lovely pair of aquamarine earrings from DMM, and last night I got a StressEraser (look it up — it’s way cool), a GearPlayer (a work tool that will save me tons of time and make me even MORE productive than I am already), a gift card for some new duds, candy, flowers, cash, a paper shredder (my request – stop looking at me that way), and a pair of Big Foot Pajamas. What else, I ask you, could a girl need? All things that will make my life easier/more pleasant/less stressful. I also am sporting tickets to see Ron White, a former/current member of Blue Collar Comedy fame along with Foxworthy, Engvall, and Larry The Cable Guy. I adore Ron White. He is so nasty that he just makes my heart go pitter-pat, and I truly have no reasonable explanation for that. I think it has something to do with the same passion I have for Billy Bob Thornton. Neither are really pretty, but they have charisma imbedded in their bad boy personas that makes them all too charming to me. It should be a hoot and I am looking forward to it.
Happy Birthday To Me!
